quick ticketing question -

I want to go to lets say crewe

Can i buy huddersfield - crewe ticket? or would I need to pay huddersfield - man picc and then again to crewe which is what i usally do, this takes time and at manchester its very busy a lot of the times. I've seen it happen on my work expirence but i'm wondering would it be more expensive to buy huddersfield to crewe?
cheerz if you can help :D

edit: if i bought manchester to carlisle then changed at preston with that ticket is that okay or not?
cheers again

Assuming you're going in the next few weeks, before you turn 16 ;)...

Huddersfield - Crewe £10.20 SVR (Off Peak Return; Any train. Rtn within 1 month any time)
Huddersfield - Manchester £5.10 CDR (Off Peak Day Return; Valid from 0915. Rtn same day any time)
Manchester - Crewe £5.50 CDR (Off Peak Day Return; Valid from 0930. Rtn same day any time)

Therefore, it is cheaper to get the through ticket.

A very small saving can be made, which I do not recommend, by purchasing a Manchester-Crewe Virgin Trains only ticket, this severely limits your options (to around 1 train per hour), the price is £4.30 CDR (Off Peak Day Return; Valid from 0930. Return same day any time) or £5.50 SOR (Anytime Return; Valid any time, Return within 1 month, also available to purchase on board Virgin Trains services so no need to queue).

Manchester - Carlisle SVR is £23.75 (Off Peak Return; Route Lancaster, Valid from 0415 M-F, Return within 1 month from 0415 M-F). I don't think there's a way you can do this without going via Preston, so yes that's got to be valid!

You are better off with split tickets though.

Manchester - Preston CDR £4.80 (Off Peak Day Return; Valid from 0930 M-F. Rtn any train same day any time)
Preston - Carlisle CDR (Off Peak Day Return; Route Penrith; Valid from 0930 M-F. Rtn any train same day any time)

All fares listed in this post are Child (5-15) fares, and valid at any time at weekends. Restrictions apply on the outward journeys of some of these tickets on Mondays-Fridays as shown above.
