So legend has it that in and before the 1960s, Wellington had 6 platforms, those being two bays and four throughs. I can see the remains of what would have been Platform 6 across from the now mothballed Platform 3 (formerly Platform 5). This leaves Platforms 1 & 2, which in their time would have been 3 and 4. There’s one clear platform face left behind Platform 1, which would have once been Platform 2. But this leaves a bit of a a conundrum- where would the original Platform 1 have been?

Wellington did used to have a considerably higher number of platforms than it currently does as it was a fairly busy junction with the line to Stafford and the line towards Ironbridge (possibly more, correct me). Platform 3 is an odd one as it seldom ever gets used anymore, with a few services from various destinations (mainly Walsall I believe) over the privatised years using it here and there. Wellington was also named "Wellington, Telford West" for a short period during the 70s and 80s.

The diagram on the Signalling Record Society’s site, which is low resolution, seems to show one through platform face on the other side of the Up platform and two bays at the Birmingham end of the Down platform. No date is given, but it is very much from the station’s heyday.
Wellington was a junction, with lines to Market Drayton (and onwards to Crewe), the only remaining line running west to Shrewsbury and east to Birmingham, the Stafford line running via Newport and Gnosall, and the Coalbrookdale line.
