Unsure if this is the correct sub-forum, please move if not. This one is for those familiar with the ScotRail network.

Pre-covid, or at least in the years preceding some time, I remember some odd diagrams with some unusual rolling stock.

I believe there was a Queen Street - Lenzie operated by a Class 156 (unusual for these parts) which then ran ECS all the way to Edinburgh. This was around evening peak time. I believe it may have formed the Edinburgh-Kirkcaldy 156, unsure though. Was this a positioning move, and why did it only run in passenger service to Lenzie?

I also believe there was a 170 diagram which ran to Prestonpans, and no further. Assuming it reversed in the loops there. What was the reason for the diesel traction on this service?

I think I’m right in saying these don’t run anymore.

Thanks in advance

The 156 formed an evening peak commuter run from Queen Street to Lenzie and then ran ECS to Edinburgh to form a Shotts line service. We now have 385s for the Shotts line and the Lenzie commuter isn't required.

The 170 to Prestonpans would have been to reduce platform occupancy at Waverley.
