Query on Oyster daily price cap

On Friday I used a bus in the London suburbs for a dentist appointment at 8am. I got the bus using my Oyster card.After 2 expensive hours but a much less painful tooth I touched in at East Croydon & went on FCC to City Thameslink.

After some time in the office I went via GA to Romford for dinner,back to London Bridge,then finally back to chelsfield.

I checked the history today at a London Underground machine & note that the off peak daily price gap of £8.50 has not been applied.Can anyone explain why?I only travelled on national rail after 10am so Am unsure what has happened here.

I refuse to register the card with TFL so do not have any online history,however I also touched in and out correctly at every point.can anyone offer an explanation here?

What were you charged for each journey? The price cap is set on different zones so you may not have travelled through the same zones.

That's unfortunate as it will limit any help we can give you, and mean that you need to type it all out manually.

Any chance you can edit your post to include spaces between all words please?

Also if you can clearly itemise each journey, and what you expected to be charged for each, that would make it easier for us. I can't figure it out otherwise, for example I don't know where you started your journey towards Romford (I'm guessing not City Thameslink, though it reads that way) and it is unclear what routes were taken in some cases (though it may not make a difference, but sometimes it can). I also can't figure out if the last journey was Romford - Chelsfield via London Bridge or if that was separate journeys.

I would, however, expect you to be charged up to the off peak cap of £8.50 plus £1.40 for a bus journey, so £9.90 in total.

If you caught the bus in "peak hours" a peak rate cap will apply

Journeys using only buses and trams

See the daily price cap for buses and trams.
If you're only using buses and trams there's a flat-rate cap regardless of when you travel.
If you catch a bus in peak hours, then other types of transport in off-peak hours, you'll be charged a peak cap.

The bus fare will contribute towards the peak cap, as well as the bus cap, but not the off peak cap. (If you hold a bus & tram pass, then buys & tram travel will not be charged )

On weekdays your travel updates the Anytime total and, if appropriate, the Off-Peak total as well. If either total exceeds the cap for the zones travelled in then your charges are capped. Thus, if you make one journey before 0930 you are likely to hit the off-peak cap before the anytime cap. Bus and tram travel also counts towards the independant daily bus cap, such that after 0930 it will only charge if none of the three caps have been reached.

Based on your description, I too would expect £9.90 to be charged.

The paragraph from TfL's website is a new one to me. I can say from experience a few years back that Oyster PAYG charged my peak bus journey separate to my off-peak cap, which applied to the rest of my day's travel. If the off-peak cap no longer applies simply because one bus journey was taken at the "wrong" time, this is a massive step backwards.

If your total charge is higher than £9.90 then you need to provide more details as requested by others.

I think they've tried to explain it better, but ended up confusing the issue and making it worse. I'm sure that the system hasn't changed. It's not only bus journeys before 0930 which might trigger a peak cap; if you make one rail journey before 0930* then use it widely afterwards you will only be charged an off-peak cap plus the one journey, unless that journey itself triggers the peak cap which it might do in only zones 1 and 2.

*or earlier at the stations further out in NW and South London.

Correct. A couple of weeks ago Mrs. island made a bus journey before 0930 and a series of other journeys in zones 1-3 all after 0930 that day. The cap applied was £9.10, i.e. the 1-4 off-peak cap plus that one bus journey.
