I have no doubt the government is serious about its intention. But it won't have any qualms about cancelling it if the committee finds it isn't a sensible investment. And it certainly won't be worried about annoying the committee members.

Though it wouldn't have made it to committee in the first place and be ready to deposit bill if it wasn't credibly a "sensible investment".

I agree that it's got through the most significant hurdles to get to this stage, and that the government are very keen to see it done. I'm just saying that any decision the government makes will take precisely 0 consideration of the committee members' individual feelings.

I don't think that sort of finding is within the remit of the committee stage of the bill?
