I wonder if the Queen took the rail replacement bus service on the WCML between Warrington and Preston to get to Oxenholme from London?:lol:

Very unlikely. Virgin are running services between Birmingham and Preston via Stockport (not calling at Manchester Piccadilly) so if she went by Royal Train I imagine it would have done something similar. I don't think they have a Royal Train Replacement Coach. :D

I was only joking about the Queen travelling on rail replacement bus services. :roll: Everyone else seems to be ignoring the empty Virgin Preston to Stockport service and instead piles on the Manchester bound Services instead of getting this or the bus

And played Polo while pregnant which apparently needed a 10 minute segment on BBC Breakfast this morning.

The VT service isn't stopping between Preston and Stockport though so it's only suitable for a selection of TPE and Northern's normal passengers. It's also not in printed timetables so those planning their journey by traditional means won't know about it.

They might not have been so empty had they started back at GLC/EDB and made connections for EUS at STP, which would be far better than the current mess for pax wishing to travel from Scotland to London............

Just had a thought after today's events on the ECML. What would happen if signalling was lost (or a similar really big problem that meant trains had to stop) and the Royal Train was approaching with no means of diversionary routes? Would a special exemption be made for the Royal Train to go through the disrupted area under extreme caution or would it have to stop and wait?

Thats because its directed at VT customers who would otherwise be travelling to London.

The 1730-ish arrivals at Preston the last couple of days have been far from empty. The problem is that regular commuters from Preston to Lancaster, etc. are boarding the waiting Pendolino before the Voyager arrives so it's already pretty full when the transferring passengers try to board.

I think you are getting confused between her grand daughter in law the Duchess of Cambridge who is nine months pregnant and does not play polo and her granddaughter Zara who is three months pregnant and does.

Well I agree with the first part. However, Virgin do carry passengers between Birmingham and the North West and between Crewe and Lancashire/Cumbria/Scotland who could all usefully use the diverted VT service. Although, passengers with non-essential journeys who knew about the engineering works will probably have planned their journey for before or after the engineering works instead.

No I'm not. A lot of media including BBC Breakfast have made a fuss about Zara playing in a charity Polo match while being 3 months pregnant e.g. http://www.examiner.com/article/pregnant-zara-phillips-plays-polo-is-it-safe

BBC Breakfast had a doctor and someone from a pregnancy group as guests yesterday morning commenting on it.

Sorry to be pedantic, Jcollins, but at post #10 you clearly mentioned the polo-playing directly beneath a quote from PaulHarding150 which clearly referred to the Queen's nine-months-pregnant granddaughter-in-law the Duchess of Cambridge, without referring to a different female, so while you may not have been confused in your own mind, it will have appeared that way to anyone reading it. The duchess has not been playing polo while nine months pregnant, the Queen's granddaughter Zara has.

Not that that makes the slightest difference to what the Royal train did on this day, so back on topic....

The rulebook applies to that train the same as any others (been there stopped that but not due to a major signalling failure fortunately :oops:)

I saw the Royal Train running south through Stockport at about 16:50 yesterday, while I was waiting on Platform 2. I didn't realise that was what it was until I saw the coat of arms. Not shown on Realtime Trains for some reason! ;)
