The Queen travelled on a standard class ticket alongside commuters as she and the Duke of Edinburgh arrived in Norfolk for their Christmas break.

Travelling on the 10:44 GMT train from King's Cross station in London, the royal couple arrived three minutes late at King's Lynn at 12:24.

Some travellers were unaware she was on board until they alighted to be greeted by a large police and media presence.

One said: "What's all the fuss about - are you expecting somebody?"

The Press Association reported the Queen paid for a standard ticket costing £34.40.

You must be thinking of a few years ago when her majesty only had a Network Card. I expect her Senior card is the same as everyone else's...

Of course as head of the armed forces she may have had one of those railcards...

The BBC article says that she was "...met by a waiting Range Rover...." with nothing about it having been driven from Buckingham Palace.

I bet she didn't use the Victoria Line from Green Park to Kings Cross, or her bus pass on the no 73 from Victoria

Ive learned something new here, I was under the impression that like the disabled persons railcard; the senior railcard was unrestricted.

It is generally unrestricted, except for journeys wholly within the Network Railcard area, when it only becomes available at the same time as off-peak day fares. It is explained on the application form.

Well if it was a Northern unit it would have to spend at least a month in the workshop before hand to actually get it into a vaguely presentable state for the queen.

I only got mine a few months back. I'm unaware of the disabled card having any similarly restrictions.
