A bit of a daft question, when filling out an application, when completing a personal statement which has to include 'Why do you want to work for us?' What sort of things should you put, so not to sound cheesy?

Gotta fluff it up haven't you. Have a look on their website and use their buzz words so make it sound as though you can contribute to their successes. Find things and reasons as to what you like that the company does better to your company now.

I find honesty the best approach. Why do you want to change TOCs to the new one ?

Do you not have to sound cheesy on all job applications? E.G writing stuff like seeking new challenge, really enjoy pushing myself, thirst for knowledge and have a real passion for delivering great customer service. HR departments probably see straight through it but I've always applied for any role in a cheesy manner.

I think this is one only you can answer!..... why DO you want to be a driver? Ask yourself that and whatever answer you give yourself then there you go!...... think the only time you need to worry about what answer you're giving is if you tell yourself you're in it for the money as telling them that would arguably be game over.

To me this question was the easiest yet hardest question to answer! I feel your pain here.

It depends on the toc when i went for virgin I faffed my interview because they were to nice haha I know sounds odd. Fully accountable it was my own fault for not adjusting i just prepared for something very full on and formal and it was the polar opposite

Most of the time a company will be looking for you to make a nod to their branding, recent events and history. In hard circumstances such as redundancy, lack of work etc (think Freight companies as an example) then it is OK to mention this -
but I would shy away from softer reasons like not getting on with your colleagues, shift patterns or a change in working patterns.

They're all perfectly normal reasons, but could be misinterpreted as a lack of flexibility.

Remember that in most cases when you are applying to a company your first point of referral will be the HR team, rather than train crew / production managers etc. So tailor it with that in mind.

Lay the cheese on with a trowel they love it, I've written some total guff on my application forms that when I've read it back I just cringed, do us their own buzz words and read the job spec and mention it chapter and verse in your own words
They want to know they are getting what they want, you could say something like, I've applied for the role of blah blah because I feel that I can contribute and help to maintain the already high standards that blah blah has set for itself, I am highly motivated and have a can do approach to my work, go on to say you like wearing a uniform because it gives you a sense of pride and that like to project a friendly approachable manner, you get the picture, if it's safety critical mention it a lot. What role are you applying for?
