Just been looking at jobs around the country out of interest / being nosey really. Seen a few qualified driver pools around, anyone have any experience with these? Say you were looking to transfer from X to Z being a qualified driver must be a lot more attractive than trainee i assume, and is there a minimum time frame for being qualified, could it be as soon as you got your licence you can move?

I only ask because Trainee Driver pools tend to be extremely long waits and no guarantees. Just wondered how different qualified would be if i fancied a location / company move.

Cheers

No you normally have to have done 2 years post qualified before another firm will take you, not the same for every toc as it varies per company but generally 2 years post qualified is about right

The market for qualified drivers is much more of a level playing field. For one thing there are far fewer applicants, and TOCs tend to recruit when they need people urgently rather than creating enormous pools of applicants which they can then dip in and out of, as with trainees.

One sticking point increasingly seems to be lack of willingness of TOCs to take relocating drivers. This seems to be because of the worry that, having got the job, the drivers will not relocate as promised leading to crazy commute times.

Having said that drivers still manage to relocate, especially to TOCs in areas where there aren’t many other depots to poach from. It all depends on the TOC.
