Good Morning,

Can I ask anyone that has recently applied for another TOC as a qualified driver. Does the new TOC contact your current TOC to confirm your SOL record after submitting your application? It says on the consent form that the current TOC should respond in 5 days with the requested information, if a position is offered and accepted then they will apply for a transfer. I realise the transfer of record happens once an offer is accepted, but I’m trying to work out if your TOC is contacted during the application process before interview, before any offer of employment etc

Nothing to hide, just want to know the process and if I were to not be offered a position/turn it down, whether my current TOC would be aware I had applied.

Thanks

Which TOC are you referring too, DM me if you don't want to make it public. However my understanding is they will NOT request SOL information until you have a job offer. I know TPE, XC and GC definitely use that approach.
My experience from when I moved TOC was application, Interview, Job offer, SOL form, medical then contract.

Greater Anglia needed the SOL form signed by my previous manager before I even had an interview!

Thank you both.

Reading what they’ve said it says they want the form back signed by me within 5 workings days in order to progress my application. So I take it I can assume from that it means they’ll then forward straight onto my current TOC…

Like I said I have nothing to hide, it just reminds me of the days an employer would contact your current employer for a reference before they’ve even offered you the job.. which then made things awkward, especially if you stayed where you were.

I applied to move TOC in 2020. My application was successful and I started at my new TOC in 2021. I had to fill out a safety of the line questionnaire as part of my application. Once I was told my application was successful the new TOC asked me to get my line manager at the TOC I was leaving to basically countersign the questionnaire form to confirm it was accurate. So in answer to your question, no, my old TOC was not contacted during the application process and were not aware I was leaving until I told them.

A few have left my TOC recently. It's certainly not consistent across the board. Some want the information before an interview, some ask once the job has been offered.

Normally you fill it out and then they will send it to your current TOC if they offer you a position.

However, some TOCs such as my old one drag their feet and take it as a personal insult that you've taken a job elsewhere.

(sometimes SoL on application - not countersigned by your old company)

Interview, Job Offer, References from previous 5 years of employer / Medical / Safety of Line Record, when all acceptable then Contract. Job offers can and have been withdrawn.

So your old company will know that you are looking to leave before you get to sign a contract with your new company.

The New Company will send the SoL to be confirmed as honest and correct, to your old company. It is an honesty check. But your old company will learn that you are looking to leave before you get a new contract because of the References.

And, yes, your new company will ask around to find out your reputation before they give you a contract. "Oh no it doesn't" "Oh yes it does, don't be naive"

Absolutely this.

I was once offered a job with a FOC, that I didn't take for personal reasons, I messaged a friend who used to work there saying along the lines of "I'm going to your old place" and he replied "Yeah I found out yesterday lol".

There is a reason in our industry it's normal in an interview to be asked if you know anyone at the company.

Have you applied for TPE or XC by any chance?

I’ve applied for both, and they both asked for safety of the line record, but said they would check until a formal job offer was in place.

Yep thinking about applying to TPE and XC.

Thanks for the reply.

From what I can make out TPE have Sundays in and XC outside, presumably committed though?
