Qualified driver interview with FGW

I have a qualified driver interview with FGW next week and was wondering if anybody on here has applied as a qualified driver?? If yes can you remember the subjects of the questions they ask, I want to be prepared for the interview

A few general rules questions, nothing that any decent driver wouldnt know off the top of his/her head.

Tip for you depending on what depot and what manager interveiws you i know a lot in the west will ask "what number Won it is this week !".

also in the west they will ask "explain absolute block and token working"

In addition, they will ask about an incident you have been involved in and how you handled it, probably ask on how you go about SPAD avoidance (know about RTC), they might ask you about PPM, will ask you about the company, they will probably ask you about running brake tests. They will ask about the drivers role in customer care

I believe that first use the same interview questions across all companies (may be wrong but it may point you in the right direction).

Therefore a qualified driver may be asked all the usual rubbish about why you want to move company, what you know about first/FGW etc and then questions along the lines of (I'm not going to give the exact questions or scenarios I was asked but a general idea)...

-what makes a 'professional' driver
-what would you do if driving along under greens and you get an unsolicited brake application
-what would your actions be if someone reported smoke coming from your train to you

Hey may probe further into answers to these, throw more in depending on how you answer etc to get down to things like rule book modules in the 'M' range, emergency protection, assistance protection etc.

They may also ask about any challenges you may face moving company, how you 'get yourself back I'm the cab' if tired/bored at the end of a long shift when your mind is wandering, ask about any incidents, anything you personally do to avoid incidents (RTC etc).

That is sort of what FCC asked me as a qualified driver anyway a few years back.

Obviously just brush up on rules, traction and PDP for your company, if there are any rule book modules you currently don't know but will need for FGW (AC electrification/multiple units etc ) then read through those so you have some idea and reasearch the company. Also see what you can find out about the traction and routes (don't need to sign them yourself obviously but any notable features, comparisons to stuff you currently sign etc).

As its a qualified driver interview I would assume the answer '"huh? What's a 'WON'?" is acceptable?!

Researching is different to cheating.

Cheating is finding out the exact questions asked, along with answers. Researching is finding out what you need to know.

I was very careful in my post not to be too exact with the questions I was asked.

If you are a qualified driver then as long as you are up to date on the current rule book
Amendments etc then you will be fine at interview.

Yawn....... As the poster above quotes - researching is totally different from practicing psychometric testing and asking for the answers of interview questions - yery weak attempt on the borders of trolling my friend and I thought you were not like that

Indeed, a qualified driver asking for interview advice with a different TOC is vastly different to a potential trainee driver getting advice on how to pass the psychometric tests.
