Hi, was just wondering if you can buy tickets between two stations that are not the one you are at? e.g. At Carmarthen can you ask the assistant for tickets between Cardiff and Cheltenham? It is only to avoid rushing at Cardiff to buy the tickets. £12 cheaper buying CMN - CDF + CDF - CNM.

You should be able to buy any National Rail point-to-point ticket (amongst others) at any National Rail ticket office. So yes, you can buy a Cardiff - Cheltenham ticket at Carmarthen ticket office.

Whilst they are not obliged to inform you of, or offer you, split tickets they are obliged to sell them if requested. So you should have no trouble.

Thanks, by the way, we change at Cardiff and Bristol Parkway, does anyone know what train the CrossCountry service is, that runs Penzance to Glasgow Central? Is it an HST? This is the one I'd be on - 12.40 off BPW headed for Cheltenham.

I don't think the HSTs go to Penzance. They all terminate at/start from Plymouth AFAIK.

Yup. Confirmed it is a Vomitor.

Yes, that's fine. If you only asked for the Cardiff Central to Cheltenham Spa ticket at Carmarthen, then some clerks might ask you to show your ticket or specify how you're getting to Cardiff Central.

Some guards on lightly-loaded trains with a long distance between stops are also happy to sell tickets for other services too, even for travel on future dates :) It's a bit faffy on an Avantix though

I'd be surprised if you have any problems at Carmarthen. There is a very good chap there, he sometimes covers Llanelli too. He knows his stuff, so fingers crossed he is on duty for you!

+1 on that if it's the guy I'm thinking of. I once told him I'd left a coat on an HST on a Sunday and he phoned ahead and got the coat actually put on a Carmarthen bound HST and I had the item back the same day! Very helpful chap.
