Purchasing 2 day returns in opposite directions

I need to visit two places in opposite directions from my local station.

A---------------B--------------C

If I am at B my home station and I buy a return to A and C, travel to A first then travel to C on a service that doesn't stop at B and finally return from C back to B. Would this be legal or do i have to travel on a service that stops at all stations.

If the OP has bought a A to C return ticket, there is no requirement for the train to stop at B; however, he/ she would also need to buy an additional B to A single for the initial leg before using the return ticket for the remainder of the journey.

That isn't what the OP is doing.

The OP is buying a B-A return and a B-C return.

Neil is correct, the train must stop at B. This is to comply with Condition 19c.

Are you saying you would buy two return tickets, one from B to A and another from B to C? In that case the train would need to stop at B.

It depends on the exact journey but it is possible that a B to A single then an A to C return OR a C to A return then a C to B single, as described by jkdd77, might be cheaper and would allow you to use the non stop train. The odd singles would be needed because you must use a return in the correct sequence.

Can you post any more detailed info eg. Locations, times etc

Station B is Shepreth my home station, A is Royston one stop towards London and station C is Cambridge one stop in the other direction from Shepreth. The idea is to take the hourly stopper to Cambridge then the hourly fast back to Royston and then return to Shepreth on the hourly stopper again but if I have to then there is no problem taking the hourly stopper from Cambridge to Royston

For that journey the two returns you originally planned would be the cheapest option.

Thanks everyone for your help I am off to give it a try, probably play chicken and get the stopper from Cambridge to Royston to play safe.
