Pubs with accommodation in the Lake District

Through a competition I've won a free tour of the Jennings brewery in Cockermouth. Normally I'd get public transport if I was going to drink but Cockermouth is a bit out of the way of a station coming from Newcastle, so looks as if I'll have to drive.

Anyone got a reccomendation of a pub that has overnight accommodation in the Cockermouth/Lakes/Keswick areas? Ideally looking to spend under £75 with breakfast.

I can't help you with pubs that do accommodation but I do know that the brewery is in the town centre and there are some good drinking pubs nearby. There is a new Travelodge on the outskirts of Cockermouth which would be a medium walk or short taxi ride away.
You can catch a bus direct to Cockermouth from the station forecourt at Penrith which in turn is a nice train trip from Newcastle. So leave that car behind.

It's probably as quick to get a direct bus from Carlisle than go down to Penrith, takes an hour. Maryport and Workington are only 20-25 minute bus journeys if you fancy taking in the Cumbrian Coast as well!

From memory, a few of the Newcastle-Carlisle trains go on to Barrow but are advertised as separate services, so not long to wait for connections.

As for accommodation, I've stayed in the Allerdale Court Hotel on Market Place. Decent enough room, good breakfast but a bit outside your price range. Bar was ok but very quiet.

Cheers for the suggestions. Quickest way looks to be getting a train to Carlisle and a bus from there, but will still take over 3 hours. Staying overnight gives me an excuse to have a look around. And I don't particularly like buses too much either!

wel if you dont mind bland and boaring cockermouth has a travelodge. It also has a regular bus service opperated by Stagecoach. Any help?

Aye, although I'm not enitrely sure when I'm going yet. Keswick is looking like the best bet so far.
