G'day everyone,

In the next two months an old school pal and I are planning a boy's day out which will include a journey between Manchester and Leeds via Stalybridge. The plan is to have a break for lunch whilst travelling across the Pennines and basically I'm looking for recommendations. We are looking for a pub that sells a well kept pint of bitter, sells decent hot food and hopefully a display of railway memorabilia.

Any suggestions? Please note that we will be travelling on a Wednesday.

Kind regards and a happy New Year to you all.

Richmond Commuter!

What day of the week is it? (Saturdays are best avoided!)

Yes Yorkie, we'd gathered that :) We're travelling on a Wednesday. Also, as you appear to be something of a ticketing guru I've created another thread on getting the best deal for our day out. Perhaps you could help......

The pub on Huddersfield station is also quite pleasant and does good food. The one at the Manchester end of pl 1.

The Head Of Steam chain has recently been sold to Camerons brewery. No idea what changes this will bring but it is many years since I had a good visit to a HoS.

I would just like to recommend the aforementioned pub in Marsden from my visit. Absolutely amazing.

Thanks for the recommendation! we now have the Stalybridge Station Refreshment Rooms, Riverhead Brewery Tap at Marsden, the West Riding Licensed Refreshment Rooms at Dewsbury and the Sheffield Tap! Not to mention Whitelock's in Leeds!
