I'm looking for somewhere that I can take my 16 year old son, so family friendly, and also quiet enough so I can talk some business with a chap I'm arranging to meet. Oh, and some decent beer would be an advantage. Suggestions please?

The Station by the Fishergate Centre exit over the footbridge to platforms 5, 6 and 7. Usually has Deuchars on.

The Old Vic across the road can have sport on but there's a quiet back snug at the back righthand side. Greater selection and cheaper ale.

Of course I should have thought of that since I was an early adopter of CAMRA from 1972 or 1973 (that period was a bit hazy). :D

EDIT: The Old Vic it is, thanks.

And I have said 10 Hailing Maryhills for posting in the wrong forum and giving the Mods extra work.

The Old Vic was just the job, thanks. However, I really need to be more careful in choosing my trains - for my journey to Preston I opted for the 10:00 ex GLC which turned out to be a SuperVoyager with 2 toilets hors de combat.

I made sure of the 11 coach Pendo for the return.
