Having lived in various areas of England over my almost 31 years- I have often wondered if other areas of the country would benefit from having regional transport funding and decisions handled by bodies similar to Metro/Centro/TfGM and the others set up in 1974?

To me, the prime candidates would be: 'Greater Bristol' (bounded by Weston-Super-Mare/Pilning/Yate/Chippenham (or maybe Swindon/Melksham)/Westbury/Frome); 'Greater Cardiff' (Essentially the Valley Lines area at least for rail purposes); or an East Midlands PTE covering Notts; Derbys and Leics.

I'm sure PTEs like Merseytravel would be good for some areas, though the debate about cross border fares could be extended if more areas had them, but I wouldn't wish Tendency for Greater Metrolink on anyone.

Have not TfGM been in informal discussions with other neighbouring authorities, with regard to matters that were put into the public domain concerning the expanded transportation roles for such authorities ?

There have been discussions about a combined body being the franchisor for the next Northern franchise.

I understand those bodies are TfGM, Merseytravel, Lancashire CC, WYPTE, SYPTE and North Yorks CC.

Derbyshire*, Cheshire, Cumbria, Tyne & Wear, Northumberland, East Yorks, Lincs, Staffordshire and Nottinghamshire haven't been involved in these discussions.

* Glossop and Hadfield are managed by TfGM on behalf of Derbyshire CC.

I'm pretty certain its just York City Council (Unitary Authority) which has been involved, rather than North Yorkshire County Council. YCC have been working closely with WYPTE on other projects such as Yorcard too.
