Since the departure of the Urbano Nr. 16800 at 00:20 on January 20, 2025, the Coimbra station, located right in the center of the city, closed permanently.

In its wake, people visited and gathered around the station, as each bid their own kind of farewell to the station that served 1.5 million passengers per year.

The station was closed to give way to a Bus Rapid Transit project, that will replace the formerly closed Lousã branch line, and now the Coimbra city railway terminal branch.
Passengers traveling to Comibra by train will have a free rail replacement bus service connecting Coimbra-B station and the site of the former terminal station. This service will later be terminated once the Metrobus starts running between Coimbra-B and the future stop at Portagem.

That's sad to hear, though I did wonder last time I was in Coimbra (4-5 years ago) how long that branch might last. Coimbra-B isn't in the best of locations, plus trains from Coimbra to Figuera-de-Foz need to cross the main lines too.

Surprising amount of infrastructures from the old line, including stations (even in the centre of Coimbra) - testament to politics and the failure to build the tram line.
