Psychometric testing

Hi was wondering if anyone can explain the two strikes rule with regards to jobs other than mainline driving. If you fail an assessment to be a shunter/ground staff/ ground operative/ trainman/ rail operative is it also the case that you have two attempts and two attempts only? Also does a failure on one of these tests count as a failure for any future trainee driver jobs you may apply for in the future?

The psychometric tests for depot driver (shunter) is identical to the tests for mainline drivers so yes if you fail once it's classed as a fail and you only have one more chance to resit the tests again. If you pass yr test results are valid for 5 years. If you fail you have to wait 6 months before u can return to the test centre for another go. I do believe though not all companies often want all the same tests. For example when I did mine I never did a written communications test because northern don't ask for that test to be carried out. However if u took the tests with say tpe they may want the written coms test but maybe not one of the others. I would guess some of the elements of the tests are a must like the group bourdon (dots test) as it assesses key elements of a potential drivers concentration ability. Possibly if u fail a test but complete and pass the the other elements and then apply to another company which isn't interested in that particular test u may be okay!

It depends on the TOC Grand Central did not send their Guards to an assessment center at all .Hull Trains have given 3 chances to at least one potential trainee driver.The usual is two strikes and your out.It's so inconsistent and contrived it is best to just do as the potential employer tells you to do.:roll:

I did an online sjt with first great western which I passed then had to do a verbal reasoning test which I failed. However these test were before a telephone interview stage, which is one stage before getting to the assessment day. I am pretty confused as to where this leaves me as the verbal reasoning test is a type of psychometric test but as it wasn't at an assessment center does that mean that I can breath a sigh of relief??? Think I had better phone first great western hr to get some clarity...

No that would just be FGWs own test. Its only the tests at the assessment centre which are the psychometric's.
