Help please. I received a letter of intent to prosecute under Byelaw20(1) and 20(2) of Railway Byelaws 2005.

The offence was being in possession of an altered travel ticket and knowingly with intention to defraud or prejudice the train company.

Can a request be made for settlement out of court before they obtain summons?

If convicted, does the conviction stay on record forever?

Any other advice is welcome please

Yes, you may be able to reach an out of court settlement, this is worth pursuing if you wish to avoid a criminal record.

Since it is a Byelaw prosecution, it's would be a non-recordable conviction so would not show up on a DBS check.

More information is required to give useful advice.

I have managed to secure out if court settlement, avoiding risk of prosecution and criminal record. Thank you all for your contributions.
