Hi all. I recently got caught fare dodging on the 23rd April and received a letter saying I am being prosecuted (this letter seems to be the standard one sent when someone is caught fare dodging). I have followed advice form other threads on people in a similar situation to me and drafted the following letter:

Dear staff of Southeastern Railway,

On the dates 10th, 11th, 16th, 17th and 23rd April I made the awful error of judgement by not having a valid ticket from xx to London Bridge and having ticket from London Waterloo East to London Bridge instead.

I apologise sincerely for my actions and realise how foolish this was upon reflection. I understand it is unacceptable, illegal and wrong to cost your company money.

I am truly sorry for my behaviour and understand there are no excuses for this. I hope I have made my regret clear and stressed that I have learned my lessons. I now appreciate the gravity of the situation with great reflection and want to re-highlight how sorry I am. I have and promise to use your services validly going forward.

I hope my regret and learning of lessons has come across in my letter. I am keen and would greatly appreciate an out of court settlement. I would appreciate it if I could cover my ticket and any admin costs that my actions have caused.

Yours sincerely,

I am very sorry for this and want my regret to come across as much as possible in my reply. My big question is that got caught on the 23rd April but I showed my trainline and tickets for the 10th, 11th, 16th and 17th were viewed on my phone (this was noted in the statement made on me). Should I mention these other dates in my reply to the prosecution letter or should I only mention the 23rd. Any other amendments would also be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all.

Did they ask about any other instances in their letter, or did the letter refer only to the occasion you were stopped?

@Connor1999. Welcome to the forum. Could you upload a copy / photo of the actual letter you've received, with any name and address + case reference number (if any) suitably obscured / covered up?

You say that this is the first time you have been caught offending as an adult. Have you previously been caught while under 18 and, if so, how long ago was it?

I can't remember exactly unfortunately but it was when I was 17 I'm pretty sure so that would be around 7/8 years ago now

I had 1 more general question, I was planning on writing out my apology on the back of the prosecution letter, would you recommend also sending a version of the apology to the email given in the letter?
