Good evening. I have received the below for a fare dispute once in May and 2 occasions listed in March 2022. I am aware of the May incident however am unable to trace back to any older records. Please could an expert advise on the best way forward ? Do I admit these and await a response on the penalty fare. I am a weekly card user otherwise

I’m sure someone here will give you better advise than me, but I thought for a Magistrates court the offense must of been commited within 6 months?

It doesn't state in the letter that the intention is to prosecute the historic offences but that they will likely be taken into account with respect to how the latest offence is dealt with.

thank you for your response. I have seen a few times where advice is to keep responses concise which is how I would plan on responding. I cannot find any record of this unless it is in error to another user and frankly would not have the bandwidth to go into a lot of back and forth. How would you suggest responding ?

We could do with more details to be able to offer the best advice.

What journey did you make?
What ticket(s) did you hold?
What are the details of the ticket dispute?

Bicester north to Marylebone
Boarded train without a ticket so tried to get one on route
Details say it wasn’t the correct ticket / fare.

We'll need a bit more than that. Did you buy a ticket with a railcard discount but not have the railcard, or was it a ticket for only part of the journey?

Did you purchase a Bicester North to Marylebone but after you had got on the train?

Or did you buy short distance tickets at either end of the journey to get through the barriers leaving a gaping gap in the middle that you’d not paid for.

What happened when you were spoken to by the inspector? Was this onboard the train or at Marylebone?

We need to know the full picture. The drip-drip feeding of information does not help us to provide the best advice to you.

Sounds to me like the OP, having boarded a train without a ticket, may then have attempted to purchase the cheapest available (advance?) ticket online, which would necessarily have been for a later train than the one that they actually travelled on.

@D211987. Could you confirm whether this understanding is correct?

If not, what were the actual circumstances?
