Hello,

A tour on May 15th starting from Prague is planned utilising 751004 - a loud prototype of the once extensive 749 and 751 fleets. These locos are now around 40 years old and passenger diagrams are reducing.

We've had good support so far, but need more to ensure it will run.

In case you need to know what 004 sounds like, have a look at a recent 'youtube' clip -

And for more information on the proposed tour, visit the following site -

http://www.eurosteam.blogspot.com/

If you've not made up your mind yet, and want to do this tour, then please let our contact, Andrew in Prague, know as soon as possible. (His contact details can be found through the link above). No money is required at this stage, just a pledge to support the tour. More details will follow as and when sufficient support is reached.

It's being run by enthusiasts for enthusiasts and is a non-profit making venture.

Here's looking forward to some massive thrash (and loads of rare track) with 751004 in May.

Cheers
Tim

Hi Tim,

thanks for the gen. I've heard lots about these but have been put off going over to have a bash because apparently they are refurbishing them and that the refurbed ones are absoloute rubbish thanks to the silencers they're having put in them.

However I would be interested in something like this as we'd be guaranteed one of the unrefurbed ones. I'll do some digging with my calender for 2010 and see.

Thanks for your message.

Yes, the fitting of silencers totally destroys the point of bashing these fine locos in my view (after all, could you imagine a class 37 or 50 silenced? doesn't bear thinking about).

Fortunately, the silencing programme appears to have ceased, with none of the remaining loud passenger 749s having been touched for over 2 years.

Having said that, with the recent reduction in diagrams, your best bet currently would be to 'deckchair' it at Prague until a loud one appears. But, if you can make our proposed tour in May, then you will have a whole day of loud, behind the much rarer 751 varient!

Cheers
Tim
