Plan for a new entrance at Edinburgh Gateway station as part of the development of the former SAICA Pack site.

Edinburgh Gateway Station

The proposals promote the creation of a new public entrance into Edinburgh Gateway station by forming an opening in the northern wall of the existing northern concourse building. This entrance will be configured to accommodate the passenger demand reasonably anticipated, with appropriate automatic ticket gates and wide-aisle gates, ticket vending machines, customer information and signage.

This would significantly reduce the time to get to the station for all homes to the north of the railway line. Current access is via the Maybury Junction. A new footbridge is due to be installed in 2025.

Positive discussions with Network Rail have taken place and there is general support for the proposed entrance. Initial studies have shown how a new entrance could be formed in the existing station enclosure. This in turn provides access to tram services.

The proposals also allow for a new mobility hub on site. The mobility hub provides covered, secured cycle parking storage (including oversized bikes). Lockers and e-bike charging points are also included.

The area is going to be unrecognisable in a few years with the about of development proposed. Good to see we're planning ahead for it.

Ironically had EARL not been cancelled, this station would almost certainly never have been built!

Indeed. There have also been ongoing negotiations to rejig the calls between Inverkeithing and Haymarket: switching all the Fife Circle to BEMUs gives you enough slack in the timetable that its not unlikely that everything except the Aberdeen fasts will be calling here in the medium term future.

That's already the case now. Everything bar the Aberdeen services currently call at EGY.

The application has been approved by the Council.

New Edinburgh neighbourhood to the west of the city including 957 homes and hotel approved by councillors

A new Edinburgh neighbourhood to the west of the city, including 957 homes and a 172-bedroom hotel, has been approved by councillors.

The residential-led, mixed-use development at Edinburgh Gateway, the site of the former Saica packaging facility in West Edinburgh, was given the green light by councillors today, Wednesday, December 17.

The application by Summix Capital was granted planning permission, subject to conditions, by councillors on the council’s Development Management Sub-Committee.

Those behind the plans say the Edinburgh Gateway development provides a unique opportunity to regenerate this former industrial site on Turnhouse Road, covering 15.5 acres.

The new neighbourhood aims to deliver a mix of uses, including the delivery of 957 homes, 35 per cent of which are affordable, plus a new hotel with 172 bedrooms.

In addition, ground-floor retail, commercial and community uses are proposed, as well as the creation of new public realm and a station interface with associated landscaping, infrastructure, car parking and access arrangements.
