Proof House Junction literature

Hi all, very stressed student here! For my final year report, I'm trying to remodel the tracks outside New Street, specifically Proof House Junction. For my Critical Literature Review, I need to suggest why, in recent years, Proof House has been the cause of so many delays in the West Midlands. I am aware that it was remodelled at the turn of the millenium, but as part of my plans I am remodelling it again, with the introduction of a fourth track from Duddeston to New Street (linking into the Down Derby for Cross-City traffic). Does anyone know where I can find evidence to back up the erquirement to remodel Proof House Junction again?

Proof House isnt a problem, its getting trains into platforms at New St if things get slightly out of kilter. I see no reason why you would remodel it again. You would struggle to get a flyover over and in on the down Derby and into the dip for New St anyway.

You're thinking about it back to front.

What train services do you want to increase the frequency of and why? Is best use being made of the current infrastructure (e.g. longer trains, capacity efficient timetabling)

Only then you identify the infrastructure necessary to allow it, based on where the network constraints will be that prevent any extra trains running.

Ah OK, this is of course pie-in-the sky thinking! Do you know where I can find a pre-1999 sectional appendix/track layout of the junction so I can compare the "then and now" layouts of the track? Thanks

Not got any diagrams but only the up Stour went under the flyover, the down Stour was on the Derby lines side so anything off the Cross City north conflicted with trains from the Birmingham International direction.

You could just do what everybody else writing a dissertation does, and try and wing it on the literature in the hope that the lecturer never checks it anyway

I have an early 90s Midland Quail knocking about at home which I could get old measurements and layouts from if that's of any use?
