Pronouncing the years, post-2000

Well, you're the first person I know to pronounce 2011 like that.

I'm sure you know what I mean, even if I don't

Most people already did; a lot of TV programmes produced in 2000 refer to 'the year two thousand'.

I think that was more a case of "ZOMG LOOK AT THE YEAR IT STARTS WITH A 2 WOW HOW FUTURISTIC!!one!"

Certainly no one really did it in, say, 2004.

I would probably be option 5. I quite often switch. I have called 2001 to present as two-thousand-X but 2012 is often refered to as twenty-twelve

Well the dominant response so far seems to be be leaning towards Option 3, though there has been little justification as to why people switch from two-thousand-and-x to twenty-x when they get to 2010....

I say 2010 either way depending on the use and conversation, but generally it's twenty ten. That said, I'm yet to meet anyone who has read the books twenty-oh-one, twenty ten, twenty sixty three and thirty-oh-one!

I think considering the fact that we have an economic crisis, rising unemployment, riots in the Middle East and tensions in Iran the pronunciation of a word is well down the list of my priorities!
