Prompting at Interviews

Is it a majorly bad thing that you may have to be prompted at interviews. I did not think this was an issue?

Not in my experience. I think supplementary questions at mmi are very common.

Was prompted many times during my interview, totally normal and got the job.

Unless your responses to the prompting were crap you have no issues.

I echo what ChrisRS said - had an interview on Tuesday, got prompted a few times (not in a bad way) and still got the job.

It depends what interview it was and why they prompted you. For example, the MMI is largely based on probing/prompting questions as that’s the idea of that interview format. For other interviews such as the DMI or any other competency based interview to be honest, prompting may be necessary for them to get the right answer, but if you’re still not meeting that competency as they require, they may see it as a negative.

I agree. I’ve interviewed in my previous role and some of the answers to questions I was given were so good that I wanted to know more anyway so it required prompting. If o had to coax an answer out of somebody, I would look upon that as generally negative. It’s not to say they won’t get the job, but there’s a balance to be had. I also don’t won’t somebody going off on a tangent (not a lot anyway) and not being able to get a word in.

There’s also generally a structure of questions, which naturally become probing anyway from my experience.

I was prompted a few times on my MMI, I realised they were after a key word to rolled into a sentence.. luckily hit the target and passed!

This is on the Conductors interview I think unfortunately they wanted more from me in some of the questions.

Not necessarily too detailed, but balanced.
