The diagram is showing as a 390 again next week according to seating plans, so I have a theory the 807 replaced a 390 at short(ish, like a few days or a week before) notice and that’s why they put some SP antimacassars up, for those who booked SP before they decided to put an 807 on it.

The 807 ran what is normally an 805 diagram. There’s engineering works over the next few weeks resulting in less Euston-Birmingham services, so the semifast path (xx:16 from Euston) is combined with the path that goes north from Birmingham, hence why it’s a 390.

It only ran for one day, lead to believe 807 won’t be back out again till late November.

What's the interior like on the 805/7s? Seats any better than on the GWR 800 family?

I think this has been gone over so many times. They are the same type of seat as used in the refurbished Pendolino fleet.

I’ve used the 805s a few times now and they are perfectly adequate in my opinion.

Really quite nice in my view in Standard. The seats are the ones from the Pendolino refurb, and are at very low density with tons of legroom and about half tables, half airline, with tons of luggage space (more racks than other 80x and lots of space between seat backs too). Also a warmer colour of lighting than other 80x. Only thing I think they could do with is having the fake wood ends instead of that yucky pastel green and a stripe along the reservation display line as other 80x have as the plain beige is a bit boring, but all in all I'm glad these will form two out of the three Avantis an hour at MKC in the medium term.

First Class might be less good as it's FISA LEANs, but I've not tried it, it might well be more comfortable than it looks.

Only real downside of the new 390 seats is the pencil thin armrests, which feel lower that they need to be too. Oh and the fabric wears terribly, so they’re looking tired already.

Are you sure it’s wearing? Same was said about the GA class 745/0 blue/grey moquette seat coverings but just turned out to be the way the fabric had reacted once new. It wasn’t actually wearing thinner.

They are definitely wearing. The black leather top has peeled away/ hanging loose and reveals a moquette you’d find on an old bus seat underneath.

Ah the black leather. I thought you were talking about the moquette itself. Sorry.

Although would be very limited in what it could then do?
Yes, but I've put a 390 on a 221 diagram before! You'd be surprised how much is actually under the wires. There were entire 221 diagrams under wires when they had a full fleet.

Both actually. The arm rests are being picked at and the fake leather on them is coming off, but the seat covers are also fading on the high-contact areas. Saw it a few weeks ago, was probably one of the first done, but every seat at the table looked like it'd been attacked with mild bleach and a scouring pad, if that makes sense.

Yes it does. Didn’t notice anything on the last two 390s I used but will keep an eye. No doubt Modern Railways will comment should the problems persist or worsen.

They can take Pendolinos, surely those have a similar power draw?

Unless their difference between a 390 pantograph and an 80x pantograph that makes the latter unsuitable, but i dont think that's what you meant?

I'm well aware of the power supply issues, but you'd run the 807 either in lieu of a 390 or in an hour when there is otherwise less demand on the power supply, no?
And regards "physical wire suitability", Preston-Blackpool was only recently done! That should be a shoe-in from a physical clearance perspective, but yes - the power supply is insufficient NW of Weaver Jn (via Runcorn), through Crewe (possibly), and through Preston. The WCPSU needs to roll ever onwards!

I seem to recall a voyager diagram which started the day from the depot at Glasgow which spent all day under the wires other than the morning ECS which went via the Suburban line due to congestion around Haymarket.

----

As for the overhead wire issues, I presume it's similar to the issues on the northern end of the ECML which forces TPE to run their 802s in diesel mode and LNER to run of their 800s in diesel mode on Sundays?

Will 807s be route cleared from Warrington Bank Quay to Liverpool Lime Street for diversions if the direct route through Runcorn is shut?

On 1A14 06:48 Holyhead to Euston. 805013 and 805012. Arrived at Crewe and been tipped off 805012. Now going forward as 5 cars only and gradually losing time all the way

Seems the following train, 0853 from Holyhead is starting at Crewe.

It went via the sub for route retention I believe as well

There was a very late night XC voyager which went that way from Glasgow C to Waverley for the same (route knowledge) reason I believe.

Pretty sure it was 9.05 ex Central.
Took it a few years ago as not done Slateford to sub. It accesses to sub wrong platform at Slateford.

presumably you mean 21.05... The reason I didn't go for it would have been an unacceptably late arrival at son and d-i-l in Eburgh!
I've done the sub out towards Dunbar, would love to do it into Eburgh!

Yep, remember that one.
Had to do it twice, because the first time it was delayed by the Lowlander leaving Glasgow Central, and then diverted into Edinburgh via Haymarket. Grrr!
Not an uncommon scenario for late night early morning PSULs to be cancelled / diverted eg because allocated staff don't sign the route. Also happened to me for a Mossend curve out of Motherwell to Edinburgh, the southbound Darlington avoider, Mansfield to Nottingham via Ironville Junction, Swansea to Cardiff via Ogmore Vale Extension line, and others.
But if it was easy, where would the fun be!

I’ll get used to the 24 hr clock one day hopefully. Every day’s a school day!
