Problems with Trainsplit and Forum site

Keep getting error message:

"Sorry, an error has occurred.​

Received HTTP 422: No itineraries found for search No itineraries found for search"

Have managed to book my tickets on TPE so I don't think it's a general problem. Tickets are for end of August so maybe too far ahead for Trainsplit, although GWR's booking horizon shows weekday bookings up to 26th Sept and XC shows 19th Sept. My journey is Hereford to Paignton via Taunton outward 26th Aug returning 29th Aug.

Tried it on my phone as well as Mac and same result. Any idea what's going on?

This is a symptom of a common problem with advance purchasing in the current system. There's a notional 12 week booking window, but some operators are publishing advances beyond this, often well beyond it.

What do you do when different companies have different booking horizons and the journey could involve different TOCs? You could offer a much longer time window, but then if you book (say) 14 weeks in advance, you might get advances only on some TOCs and not others, leading to a combination of advances and walkups and a more expensive fare overall. The price could well go down around 12 weeks out.

On the other hand, the cheapest fares for some TOCs may actually require you to book more than 12 weeks out.

How should you deal with this? Maybe offer fares with a caveat that the price may go down? Or block them until the 12 week window? I don't think there's an easy answer.

Thanks, that makes sense. As at yesterday my dates were within the thirteenth week away, so fair enough. I've sacrificed the possible saving of a couple of quid by booking anyway - an Anytime Return Hereford to Taunton and the cheapies for TAU-PGN on TPE in case they ran out. Thanks for the explanation, I'll bear in mind in future.
