I believe that "Tommy", the prototype Woodhead Electric and forerunner of the Class 76, was tested on the Altrincham line during the war, but (it being wartime) this was a secretive operation, and the only time that I am aware that 1500v DC stock from either the Woodhead side or the Altrincham side "crossed over". "Tommy" would have been towed over to the Altrincham line, there was never a wired connection between the two systems, though they co-existed just yards apart between 1955 and 1958.
