Problems on East Coast tonight??

A friend has just sent me this rather amusing message that has just come across the train's pa.

"We apologise for the delay. Could any passenger with knowledge of signalling systems and points please make themselves known to the guard."

That was somewhere near Retford where he was waiting for over an hour, now he's stuck at Donny.

Amusing as it may be, the Guard was doing the correct thing, it's like asking for a doctor or someone with medical experience, it saves a lot of hassle and time.

I got caught in delays tonight, coming back from York. We stopped outside Doncaster, and the TM said we were waiting to go into Doncaster due to a power failure.

We did get moving, but then had to go straight through Doncaster, otherwise we'd be stuck there due to lack of power.

As I was going to Grantham, and expecting to change at Doncaster, I had to stay on until Newark and catch the next London train down (also delayed).

I made it to Grantham, and managed to run across the footbridge to catch my connection back home to Boston with about 30 seconds to spare...

The station was completely closed after about 5.45pm due to a total power failure in the area. The station was totally dark at 6.30 when I drove past!
