According to Tracksy 9S85 ( 1540 Euston to Glasgow ) and 1S83 ( 1903 TPE Preston to Edinburgh ) have been stopped just short of Shap Summit since c1945 - 90 mins ago as I write this. Not the best location to be stuck, I would have thought!. Also, as snow is forecast, I hope whatever the issue is can be sorted soon.

There has been some damage to the overhead electric wires between Oxenholme Lake District and Penrith, closing the line running towards Carlisle.

As a result of this, trains may be cancelled, severely delayed by up to 90 minutes or revised.

Major disruption is expected until the end of the day.

Stuck on 1S90 at Lancaster. Happy valentines day
I don't think it sounds good based on what I've seen on Tyrell- The option of evacuating both Avanti 1S82 and TPE 1S83 onto southbound Avanti 9M61 (which departed Penrith 21:08) is/was being looked into.

Edit at 21:17- 9M61 being restarted at Preston with a fresh Pendolino which I'm guessing might reflect how badly this train will be delayed between Penrith and Oxenholme.

Not only is this problem causing disruption north of Preston, for some reason, Avanti are blaming it for causing the cancellation of their 20:31 London Euston to Preston and also for the termination of their 19:28 London Euston to Preston at Crewe. I'm guessing Rail replacement busses will have had to be arranged for these two trains at Crewe.

2031 most likely cancelled due to 9M61 maybe terminating short (as another has started in its path from Preston).
As for the 1928 most likely terminating because Preston is full?

Don't forget last Friday's fun and games with the OHLE problems around Watford, or the Primrose Hill fire the Friday before that...

Yet I've been told on here that these weekly farces don't happen.

Can hardly blame the railways for the fire!

As it's Valentine's Day

Roses are red
Violets are blue
The wires are down
So the 1540 Glasgow won't be getting through

In another incident though isolated, 9M59 (also a Glasgow to London via Birmingham) has either broken down, or pulled the wires down at Camden, been there for 100 minutes now. It is visible on Camden railcam if you have an account there.

I'd hate to be three minutes from London and stuck on a Saturday night.

Loss of air. Possession has had to be given up on lines A and B so services trapped behind can get into Euston.

According to TransPennine Express JourneyCheck, it seems as if the problem is going to continue all day today (15/02). Services split into a Carlisle - Glasgow/Edinburgh Shuttle and a Preston - Lancaster/Oxenholme Shuttle.

Avanti have binned everything North of Preston it seems.

Not everything has been binned at Preston. TPE are turning back at Oxenholme and Avanti‘s 1S35 is running to Glasgow with single line working Tebay to Shap summit to get round the two stranded trains.
WCR have just despatched a thunderbird from Carnforth, presumably to rescue one of the trapped units.

Absolute p*ss take yet again that its taken so long to get a rescue loco. If the wires are down, the wires are down, and a thunderbird should be ordered as soon as the wires are down! Not hanging around for hours hoping they fix themselves!

If they've hired a T-Bird from WCR I doubt if they would have had staff working overnight to source one.

Were wires wrapped around train? Is there damage that prevented trains being moved over night?
Was a rescue loco with crew available to move said train?

NR and Avanti are normally good at getting stuff fixed/moved quickly, there may have been issues that is reading here do not know about.
