Problems near Rugby (28/05)

I was on the 1710 London Euston to Holyhead Virgin service yesterday (Tuesday) and we first got stuck for about 10 minutes south of Rugby, the guard said a Manchester to London service has hit “something in the four foot”.

Later we had several short signal stops but just past Crewe we stopped again for a good ten minutes, it was announced that a signal was faulty.

Finally got to Chester about 20 minutes late. We did gain some time but lost it again due to the signal stops.

Anyone know what happened?

Weedon Delay:
Pipes rolled onto track, possibly caused by vibrations of passing trains as the pipes are heavy. MOM and contractor removed them to a safe distance.

Crewe Delay:
09:45 - Signaller unable to give a line clear to Crewe Steel Works.
10:04 - TFW 1D13 advises signal black vice yellow. Signaller has no indication.

There are suggestions of vandalism regarding the pipe on the line, as response staff were also attacked shortly afterwards. I believe BTP are investigating accordingly.

I left out the part that said the pipes were deemed too heavy to be lifted by kids.

I read it that morning and have read the updated text just now. No mention of an "attack on the contractors".
Unless there's something else NR use to expand the comments that you were "indirectly" sent? But I can absolutely say, with no shadow of a doubt, there is no mention of any "attacks".

The latest was from the 31st (yesterday), which says:
"DRIVER STATES PIPES STACKED AROUND 5FT HIGH AND AS TRAIN APPROACHED BELIEVES THEY ROLLED OFF THE PILE ONTO THE TRACKS. DRIVER BELIEVES NOT BEEN PLACED THERE DELIBERATELY."
