Problems at Weymouth / Dorchester South

I heard on the news about severe delays this morning, and indeed a plethora of cancellations and delays.

Different reasons are coming up - some I assume are linked ie: signalling problems, and lineside cabling, as well as power supply failure, but several mentioned the cancellation due to an error having being made.

As I am nosey, what would this cover?

There were still issues until end of service last night.
My friend, who used to be a signaller, said he doesn't understand why a shuttle service could not have run between Weymouth and Dorchester South, adding that "there are 2 automatic level crossings on the single line between Moreton and Dorchester which will have been ‘knocked out’ by a signalling failure. Having said that, they should be able to run trains using pilotmen and to cancel several trains shows a complete lack of urgency – not good."

Another pal who lectures in railway studies, told me that the talent has left SWR over the years.

A set of points were run through and diverted the techs from the original track circuit failure which occurred after engineering work Thursday night.

Travelled on 3 SWR services yesterday and aboard each one we were provided with a different explanation!

Problems today again. Just checking my local station, apropos of nothing.

The Tiger Worldwide departure boards are showing multiple cancellations at Dorchester South, however Real Time Trains shows the services operating albeit with delays.
Which one is correct? (Journey Check seems to indicate that Real Time Trains is wrong)

EDIT - Think RTT was just slow, they are now showing the cancellations.

I think you're right- I'm under the impression that short notice cancellations applying to trains which have already started their journey will only show on RTT when the train reaches the point where it is being terminates short.
Whereas amendments to trains starting their journeys after their planned origin will show on RTT straight away.

Real Time Trains doesn't take data from the public-facing information system so you should not rely on that for cancellations, the TIGER board (which essentially mimics the board at the station) and Journey Check is intended to be the single source of truth.
