Hi,

Quick question as am mobile on the app:- currently on the late running XC service to Southampton Ctl, caught at Oxford. The 1516 and 1544 XC services had some delays (the 1516) severely. Anyone know what was causing it? Last time I run for a) a Voyager and b) a Voyager I thought was on time.

Secondly there was congestion around Oxford according to our XC TM on the 1004 service, apparently caused by a bridge bash. Anyone know what this was around Oxford? I would suggest a high vehicle but I don't know hence question.

Cheers,

Adam

Can't say for certain but it may well be the bridge immediately to the south of Oxford station over Botley Road, it's quite restricted hight wise.

First of the all the 1516 which is 1O18 1227 MAN - BMH . The unit that forms.this.service was 1M29 0701 PGN - MAN which left Bristol 13mins late and lost 25 minutes between Bristol TM and Bristol Parkway, therefore making it 54 late into MAN to Form 1O18 therefore that delay caused this train to leave MAN 32 late. That's why the 1544 turned up before the 1514.

Cheers. There were a lot of disgruntled people on the platform, especially when the XC service showed and we had an announcement informing us of the 'overtaking' services.

As an aside, why oh why do XC make Coach E non-existant, and in one of the cases today, coach B too! All the Voyagers have screens in them, so, why can't they make Coach F Coach E and forgot about F! Are there any reasons behind this?

Hmm, that's what I thought about the bridge, if anyone knows for sure what did happen though, that'd be great!

I heard that announced as I passed through New St this afternoon that the Piccadilly to Bournemouth was 30 late due to being delayed earlier at Bristol.

Thought it a bit strange, I'd have though with it being delayed by nearly an hour into Piccadilly they would've terminated it at Macc like I've heard of them doing in the past.

maybe they ran it through to MAN as The WCML was shut for a while so the likes of.stoke and macclesfield would of used XC

could of been due to the broken rail at northallerton.

Somewhere only we know
There was a fatality between Cardiff and Newport, which had knock on delays for services (incl. XC) that route around the Bristol PW area.

There was then a trackside equipment failure at Filton Abbey Wood, which is on the line that connects Bristol Temple Meads and Bristol Parkway; and the route XC use to begin the journey through to the North.

Yep that would be what I was thinking about.

XC have a mixture of four and five car voyagers, coach B only exists on the fives but it is left unreserved. I presume they do the letters this way so that if they have to swap in a 4 coach unit in place of a 5 coach they don't mess up anyone's reservations.

As for the "missing" coach E I suspect it's historical accident - something like if the quiet coach was always F on the pre-voyager (longer) trains and they decided to keep it that way on the new sets. Someone else will know for sure.

I wonder if theres a story here about options to extend to 6 car units?!

Are TPE 185s not A B D for the same reason? Cant find a seating diagram at the moment.

Its interesting to compare with the 222s. 7 car units have A C D E F G J (maybe when they were 9 car there were B and H?)
