Problematic passengers

SWT's 450 quiet zones are pointless really. Combined with first class, they make a four car unit effectively just two and a bit coaches long if you are a passenger with a mobile phone and a standard class ticket. The stickers with the forbidden items crossed out include a pair of headphones. Not so long ago I was on the train and a woman with headphones on (you couldn't even hear her music) was told to remove her headphones. She pointed at the sign and said:

"It says no loud music. Oh, it also says no headphones. I'll just play it through my speakers next time... it says nothing about those... but on a low volume setting obviously."

Don't forget the guard (or anyone else for that matter) has no actual power to enforce any quiet coach 'rules' as said rules are non-existent 8)

I'm not bothered about loud music, unless it's in the quiet coach. Iwhen travelling on holiday in a Sprinter, the only to here music is to have it all the way up, and it still isn't loud enough!! I got that bored this year I think I started singing!! hock: hock:

The things that bug me are scratches windows and graffiti on tables and on the outside aswell, and abuse at Train staff. If you don't like the train staff, get over it.
I think the only stern word was with a CT guard. An elderly lady's son was helping her move some luggage on to the train, and after he got all the stuff on, he was about to help his mum on, and the guard closed the doors, leaving her at the station, and him, angry and confused, the guard gave the all off, and the train was off. He, and nearly everyone in the end of Coach A was saying to him why did you leave without her, and he replied "Oh, I didn't see her" What a c**t. I can't remember what happened after that, but how could you leave an old lady on the station, near the door, when her son was helping her??
It wasn't problem Passengers, it was problem Staff!!

EMT's staff are really mixed - some are very friendly. One in particular I can remember was when I was on 153302 from Lincoln-Grimsby, a guy called Niel, he came down in to the seated area at Market Rasen to talk to us and asked us how we all were etc. (there were about 3 of us, not a busy line!) and when someone got off at Barnetby, after Niel had closed the doors, I switched seats so I could get a better view, and he said 'Oh, you didn't want Scunthorpe did you?' And was ready to open the doors again if I was late getting up! That's customer service!
Northern's staff can be just as nice. However, NXEC seem to have little courtesy toward passengers (well, carried on from GNER I suppose) and are often unhelpful, never smile, and find the smallest faults to go on at you about

On the day of the Derbyshire Wayfarer meet (14 august), I got me brekkie from the EMT on board shop, and the person who was serving there, was a nice chap. Said that he prefered the HSTs to the 222s. Mainly as there was more space on the buffet car on the HST. had me head out some point (Outside leister i think), and asked if I was enjoying the journey. More staff should be link that

I think disgusting toilets, tables and mucky trains are very bad. A 323 I was on had a vague smell of sick at one end, and the seat covers were kind of wierd looking..

Noisy chavs are annoying, But I cant see why bags on seats/tables are a problem if everybody has a seat and it isn't packed on board.

Essentially, if you have a problem with something, deal with it, and if you cant, avoid it.

I'm always too shy to tell people to move their s**t. When you walk through the coach, they all look away hoping that you aren't going to tell them to move. I hate it.
I just sit in the vestibule.

I'm sure a farepayers luggage has priority over a priv holder anyway.

I always listen to music in the quiet zone, but no one else can hear it. I always have it turned down very low. Infact, the volume on my iPod doesn't go quiet enough for my liking.

Not many things annoy me on my travels surprisingly! Though when little children that look under 5 are taking up a seat (in this case, 4 of them taking up 4 seats) on a packed 4 car 319 down to London with around 5/6 people standing you'd think the children are moved. Of course if they have a ticket then that's all gravy but if they don't then I would ask the parent to move them. Of course no one asks this though.

Screaming baby's don't bother me as they are baby's... They can hardly help it but when its toddlers or older screaming because they don't get what they want or something, its out with them in my book. But to be fair you can't really do much about this. Though this doesn't bother me too much. Listening to music/being on the phone in the quiet coach doesn't fill me with actual anger. I can sit there happily ignoring it.

On that note of music, Gizzy how do you know no one else can hear? I always thought this was case with my old earphones until my mate put them on...

If you're using your priv don't you have to give up your seat to a fare paying person anyway?

But if you're too shy about asking people to move their bag then don't complain. In the case of luggage on the seat I just walk towards the seat in question, by that time they turn around and move their stuff. If they don't? Then you go to sit down and they soon move it...

In conclusion none of the above actually make my physically angry.

I always ask the people I'm with if they can hear my music, and no one has ever told me that they can (Not even Dan, who has exceptional hearing). I have it so quiet that even I can hardly hear it! I just like a little background music to my life.

Whether it's frothing at the slightest thing, stinking the coach out (with or without deodorant, doesn't seem to matter these days), anorak wearing, and so forth. So what annoys you the most?

Think its definately a case of the majority of staff/passholders do give up seats for fare payers, the minority don't though. I certainly do.

Haha. The other day, we arrived at Didcot Parkway, and a minute later, a woman legs it down the train to the door and stands there staring. Then runs through the doors to me and asks if I know how to open to door. Despite the big stickers on the doors with instructions and pictures explaining the process. Was funny though.

And Gizzy - same thing happened to me on one of my trips down south. A woman asked me how to open the door, she couldn't, and im too small!! Was rather funny. We got it open in the end though =)

I've actually fallen ouut of an HST once: because the handles are so far down and my arms are so short, when I opened the door, I just fell onto the platform. Thankfully I didn't fall flat on my face or anything, but I still got some strange looks...

I do it. I did Glasgow - Crewe last Tuesday, and it got so busy at Lancaster I went and stood in the vestibule for the rest of the journey. I was able to sing along to my music then, instead of just listening, so it wasn't all bad 8)

The amount of people who can't open the doors on a 323 (from the inside AND outside) is, quite frankly, staggering.
