Problem with Eurail pass

I have a problem and hope someone can help. I bought a Eurail.Pass in December for summer travel for two months. I landed in Prague Wed and they validated the pass..now the conductor on my Railjet train says the pass is only valid from 2/26 to 4/26...ive always bought an open ticket. Is this fixable? Prague stamped it and the conductor to Vienna said nothing.i always get an open ended pass so I have 11 months to activate.

1. Is it a paper pass? (I suppose yes, but please confirm.)
2. If so, then what does it say on the pass as the validity period?
3. What did the Prague office office do? Did they write or stamp anything on it that has a date?
4. What does your order confirmation mail say about the validity period?
5. Could you post a photo or scan of the pass?

I have to say that all the x/y dates you @Ringo2112 have quoted are confusing me - I can't tell whether they are days or months or years; is there confusion with US-style dates?

In the future please use full DD/MM/YYYY format or spell out the months, otherwise the incomplete and inconsistent formats are impossible to understand.

I don't know if I was just lucky, but when I emailed Interrail a few weeks ago about delay compensation, they replied within ten hours.

Paper passes always have a fixed start date selected at the point you order them, though.

Probably, yes.
I've bought several Eurail passes from Eurail shipped to me paper to the U.S., and never had an issue with dates. I always got an open date with the 11 month rule. This may be a Eurail mistake and I may not have to eat it. I hope they respond tomorrow. How they got these dates, I have no idea. I would find it hard to believe if Eurail didn't work with me on something like this.

I think posting a photo or scan of the pass, like @rvdborgt already mentioned, might help us in determining what went wrong.

As you mentioned having purchased the pass in December: couldn't it be the case that date restrictions applied to passes bought in the Black Friday sale? They didn't apply to mobile Interrail-passes, but maybe conditions were different for Eurail passes?

Nope, I've bought on black Friday's before and they were no different then normal buys. You still get 11 months to activate. Someone at Eurail has gotten back to me already. Their working on it. If anyone cares, I'll update what happens. If I get no help from Eurail, that is one expensive trip from Prague to Vienna....900 U.S.D.

Interrail paper passes always have a fixed start date, but Eurail paper passes have the option of being activated after arriving in Europe - see "Seat 61": https://www.seat61.com/how-to-use-a-eurail-pass.htm#how-to-use-a-hard-copy-pass But they can also come pre-activated, which is what looks like has happened in this case.

That's why I asked: 4. What does your order confirmation mail say about the validity period?

Well, I have an answer. Eurail is going to give me a refund. I got it at a very good rate, senior discount and Black Friday. I have to return this paper pass for a refund. Vienna main station sells Eurail passes (paper of course) but Eurail wants me to buy it from them. And since I am already traveling, my only option is to buy a mobile pass. I've never used a pass on my phone, but I will have to figure it out and of course use it on my two month trip. Thanks for the advice on here.

Well done on getting the refund.

The mobile pass might seem daunting initially, but I had my first mobile Interrail pass last September, and it quickly became quite straightforward to access it in the app, load new journeys, and so on. I assume the Eurail version will work just the same way. Probably the only major "gotcha" is that the associated journey planner is not very reliable: it doesn't seem to be updated frequently with timetable changes, and some services are just not included at all. So the usual advice is to do journey planning in some other system (as you're already used to doing, presumably) and just use the app's journey planner for those journeys you actually want for the pass. As I recall, the user guide on the Interrail/Eurail website is helpful, and there's also a step-by-step guide on the "Main in Seat 61" site: https://www.seat61.com/how-to-use-a-eurail-pass.htm#how-to-use-a-mobile-pass

Thanks, do you have to show every trip, or is there a bar code or front page that you can just show conductor. For instance with paper pass, they rarely made me fill out the printed ledger attached below the rail pass. Only a few attendants asked me to fill it out. I just showed them the pass, most looked at it and walked away. Thanks for your response

For both passes, the requirement is that you have to register each train before you board it. Although it's rare, I've heard about fines for not filling out the paper trip diary. Many ticket inspectors indeed don't care, and if they do, they'll usually just ask to enter "their" train.
Also, get used to the terminology of the Rail Planner app:
Each pass must be connected to exactly 1 trip.
The trip will (eventually) contain all journeys you take with your pass.
A journey contains 1 or more trains.
