Priving the Sleeper

Just a thought crossed my mind, i'm coming back by train (via Glasgow) on the 30th, was considering the sleeper train, so was wondering if a PRIV discount can be used?

Last time I checked it was £27.50 Standard Class berth and £10 more for a First Class berth.

(Note that the 1st class berth only applies if you have a 1st class PRIV. I would pay the extra if you do, because otherwise you may have to share a cabin)

Only got a standard PRIV IMO all frontline should have first lol. I'm guessing similarly to other trains I just walk up to the Guard/ Train Manager and get a ticket off him?

You don't need a first class priv for first cass sleepers. When I go up on the sleeper I always say I am travelling alone with a std priv and I pay the extra for a first cass berth to myself.

How much extra is it though? Do you pay the 1st PRIV price or the passenger 1st price?

I didn't know that, as molesey boy has asked I too would like to know how much the extra cost is.

Seniority of the role, I've heard. However I don't even think that Station Managers get it, probably just executives and directors!

I can't remember to be honest-not done it for a while, still think overall it was a fair bit under 50. Sleepers tend to be a bit different with privs-think they make their own rules up.

When I travelled by sleeper recently I overheard an argument between a passenger and the sleeper staff. The passenger had a standard class PRIV but had pre-booked a first class berth by phone. The steward wasn't allowing it and said he was surprised the pax had been allowed to book it at all. Pax claimed he had "been doing it for years". Steward said you could only book a first class cabin with a first class PRIV and he didn't allow the pax to occupy the berth. Pax wasn't pleased. May be worth bearing in mind.

Problem there is that they are always changing ticket rules both for staff and punters but don't always fully inform staff-therefore what ticket office/phone sales think and on train revenue staff think can be different.
