Privacy & Cookie settings pop-up

Does anybody else have this little pop-up constantly appearing? I’ve selected my cookie preference but it still re-appears.

Im using Safari on IOS 17.6.1 if that makes any difference?

Usually appears at the most inopportune moment, just as I go to click on one of the links that it then covers!

I also see that, but always bottom left, so not in the way of much. (Firefox on Windows 10)

I get it at the bottom left as well: even though I have cleared my website history and data it still came up. Needless to say, I have no idea what I am using.

I'm also getting it in the bottom left, I have no clue what version of Google I'm using. Im also getting it on my phone running Android Version 13.

I had this a few weeks ago, I think on only one device, then it disappeared a day or two later.

Today I'm getting it on all three devices that I use for reading the forum. It does have a bad habit of getting in the way of something I want to click on.

I have an ad blocker running on my Android phone and never get that pop up. I'm not sure if it's the ad blocker that stops it though.

I've not had it (yet!). I use Google on Firefox. Maybe McAfee blocks it out?

It does it to me on my work machine and re-appears seconds after I cancel it out; I haven't seen it on my home machine at all.

I saw it earlier and funnily enough I’ve just had it again

Reporting it to the staff is the best course of action and it’s likely they’ll know why it’s here

I think it happens when you run your mouse over the advert at the bottom

It just pops up as soon as I go to the forum’s page. I use an iPad, so no mouse was harmed in the making of this message.

I get it too, all the time, despite having selected cookie preferences, and regardless of where the mouse is on the page; It just appeared again while typing this!

Yes I get it too. It's literally just popped up whilst I'm writing this post. I also get one that appears the first time I visit the forum. I always click the box to close it down, rather than click "Accept", which may be why I subsequently see it again the next time I visit the forum. So there are two of these cookie pop-ups now! Annoying things. I may have to stop using this forum, as it's just getting ridiculous now.

Just a quick acknowledgement we're aware of this and working on something in-house to replace it! I don't want to promise an ETA (remember we're all volunteers on the staff team) but the Google cookie warning is on its way out as I don't like the limited control we have over it! It's a legal requirement though, so unfortunately i can't really just hide it in the meantime.

The problem isn't so much the thing itself; it's the fact that even after clicking either of these buttons it come back seconds later. It's like it's not logging whatever choice is selected.

It doesn't scarper after using the X in the top right corner of it either.

Yes that behaviour is due to Google's implementation which we're working to move away from. In the interim we're stuck with what Google offer us.

Having done some further investigation today, unfortunately using our own is a non-starter. Since earlier this year, sites using Google Ads have to use a Google approved Consent Management Platform and getting our own accredited is more hoops that I'm willing to jump through. I have, however, made a few changes to hopefully make the Google one a bit more bearable, and if it really is still an issue long-term, I'll look into other accredited drop-in replacements for it.

I use an ad-block, mainly to blog Google Vignette Ads, but that program does not always blog ads though.

Even more bizarre, there are websites that have a pop-up Google pop-up consent that you have to respond, then a Google Vignette full-screen ads that you have to respond.

It is like Google is actually an international internet convention the way it is doing, as it looks like Google is invading our privacy!

Unfortunately there is consent and ads from Google, whether you are a Google user or not, it is everywhere you browse the web.

Perhaps we all ought to use services from Google at one point or another, as a result of the aforementioned necessary services from Google.

This seems to have reverted to its previously normal behaviour this morning*, with "Privacy and cookie settings" occupying a narrow bar across the bottom of the tablet's screen, rather than in the annoying pop-up boxes that blocked access to the bottom Home > Forums > etc. menu bar.

* At least on this Android tablet, I haven't checked my other devices yet.

I hope this might save @Mike395 any more work?
