ATOC priv pass allows you to apply for a discounted Oyster card charging only 40p per tap.

You can also buy LUL tickets for £1 (Zone 1 single) or £2 (Travelcard)

Thameslink (which is now FCC) did have an agreement with Midland Mainline (now EMT) for free travel to work on each others services, don't know if it still stands.

AFAIK this is still the case.

Also, First Capital Connect priv's are valid on NEXC and most if not all the First services.

AFAIK this is still the case.

This one is a bit tricky. The agreement always has been for residential travel only (therefore for staff travelling to/from work - i.e. not dependants, partners, nor leisure travel) and only from St Pancras to Bedford.

Although I haven't tried it, I'm sure if you was to ask before getting on then most wouldn't have a problem with a dependant/partner pass.

Also, First Capital Connect priv's are valid on NEXC and most if not all the First services.

This is actually slightly incorrect.

The reciprocal arrangement with NXEC is again residential travel Monday-Friday between King's Cross and Newark Northgate. This widens at weekends to ALL FCC pass holders for the ENTIRE NXEC network.

Sadly, FCC passes are NOT valid on any other First undertakings, however there are 10 boxes allocated per year for such uses.

There are two other residential travel options available:

Southern - London Bridge to Brighton (along the TL route), but only if a special Southern pass is held.

NXEA - Cambridge to Kings Lynn (along the TL route).

They're London Midland staff. I've never been stopped there for showing an invalid ticket, though I did come across one woman who I think no longer works there who refused, point blank to allow someone to accompany me onto the platform. We had no choice but to ignore her (this was back in CT days). I saw her a few days later hassling people who didn't have their railcard signed.

I prefer the approach of the commuters who seem to come from the Bath direction in the mornings - just walk past really fast - "We have places to go, you know."

At new street i dont bother showing anything i just walk past unless ime asked now, i never show my priv pass they always take about an hour trying to decide weather they will let me through or not, i just show my XC pass when they ask.

You are entitled to residential travel anywhere on Southern however you have to supply an application and I am fairly confident that unless its on the Brighton mainline it will only be granted to those who worked for Thameslink.

Some staff still hold Southern all station, any purpose passes.

The residential allowance on Midland Mainline used to apply as far as Leicester. I don't know whether that is still the same but it was until the end of Thameslink.

Yeah, I remember showing it at Man Picc ticket staff. It didn't go well. They kept me for ages and someone managed to work out that I was 31 years old from it when it doesn't have my DOB or age on at all. Gosh.

Yeah. I don't bother with them anymore. Just walk straight through :) Or pretend I'm in a hurry and make a dash through.

I'm valid, but I can't be arsed with the hassle of them not understand what I'm holding up at them lol

I thought dependent passes had DOBs on them?

Funny thing - even the Rail Staff Identity Cards don't have DOB on them either...

The ATOC TOC Privledge Card does NOT grant you ANY facilities on London Underground whatsoever. FCC staff on application can get a TFL PTAC which entitles us to Priv Rate Oyster, and of course any safeguarded staff are entitled what you mentioned above, but us NE staff nope :(

Further to whats above too. FCC's arrangement with EMT is still in place, but it is only as far as Bedford.

fcc and emt arrangement goes north of bedford, i know staff that live in the derby and leicester area that use them.
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
6rdfar90 they may have used them to purchace tickets at priv rate but if they are non safeguarded then they are travelling illegally, on the priv pass it says not valid for travel on lul or spt services, that is off course if you have safeguarded passes in which case you will be fine.

Then its been ignorance on the part of the staff issuing tickets. Officially A TOC-NE Privledge Card is not valid for that purpose. There's ways, unofficially around it, a London Terminals to Zone One Standard Day Return for example.

Well - all i knows is - on the back it says *(UNLESS STATED OTHERWISE THE CARD MAY BE USED TO PURCHASE PRIVILEGE RATE TICKETS ON LONDON UNDERGROUND)

How would I know if the ticket's safeguarded or not?

Yee it has 20 boxes saying DAY MTH in which you obviously put the date and month you travelled

was your dad/parent working on the railways before iirc 1996 then they are safeguarded,

well if bedford is what you have been told then you can go by that, but im 100 percent sure you can use it as a residential to your destination, i think it says duty, residential in there somewhere.

6rdfar90 thats why, you dont have PRIV card, you have a BR STAFF TRAVEL CARD, which is valid for LUL travel. What westcoaster and myself are talking about is a new entrant TOC card, Red Top and bottom which entitles staff joining to railways after 1996 to 75% ONLY off tickets.

Yours entitles you to essentially 40 days free travel (the date the box is dated and the day after) and priv rate, as well as priv rate on the underground.

Westcoaster, it probably does happen, EMT are very relaxed when it comes to enforcing the arranagement and usually as soon as they see you're FCC you get an upgrade too!! Officially though, it is Residential use only and the limit is only as far as Bedford. With NXEC the residential travel facility is as far as Newark North Gate. I'm guessing we must have a few PBO drivers living in Lincolnshire!

I guess the residential arrangement between FCC and EMT is done on a case by case basis for staff who live north of Bedford. What I have read, however, states Bedford but I'm sure there is something in place in case staff live slightly out of the area.

Regarding Priv (of the TOCNE type) and LUL, these are NOT valid for discounts although some LUL staff have issued Priv rate LUL tickets on production of the pass. Although it is, strictly speaking, not allowed I believe it goes along the lines of ALL LUL staff get discounted NR travel so they repay the favour a little...

In response to the question above, too, 'safeguarded' is a term used to describe staff who have worked for the railways before privatisation (1st April 1996 IIRC). After that (including upto now) if you join the railway you are a TOCNE (Train Operating Company New Entrant) as you have only ever worked for a TOC.

It may be simular to the Southern arrangment whereby staff who worked for Thameslink (and who previously had residential travel as far as AT LEAST Leicester) may continue to be granted travel further afield.

By ATOC TOC Priv, do you mean the safeguarded ones? Cause the safeguarded ones like mine do allow you discount on the underground and priv rate Oysters.

Yes 91101 means the non safeguarded.

A way for non safeguarded to use LUL is to buy tickets to Zone 1-?.

However, Oyster has made rail travel ridiculously cheap in London anyway.
