priv card advice

hi I am new to the Forum and am looking for advice about the use of retired staff Priv cards . Basically i need advice as I was a widower and I have now remarried is my new wife entitled to a Prv card and how do I go about if entitled getting her one. My second query is regarding my son whose Priv card was taken away on his 18th birthday , he is a Student in full time education and is dependant on me, is he still entitled to his ?

I don't know about your wife, but I'm pretty sure your son is entitled if he is still in full time education - as has been suggested, approach ATOC and see what they say.

Your new wife:

Basically, your ex-wife has to return her PRIV first if it is still valid.

in the case of married Safeguarded Employees eligible for such tickets under 2.3.1, 2.3.2, 2.3.3, 2.3.4 or 2.3.5 above one legal spouse but NOT for a spouse legally separated or divorced from the employee. A person is considered to be legally separated following any order of decree absolute. In the case of remarriage, facilities cannot be issued to a new spouse until travel documents relating to the former spouse have been surrendered

2.3.8.1 Dependency of Children

A child is considered to be dependant if it is;

(a) under 25 years of age, and its income does not exceed £108.30 gross per week or the equivalent, which includes the value of items such as free board and lodging, lunches, etc. and also any unemployment or supplementary benefit;
(b) 25 years of age or over and it has no income whatsoever, including any unemployment or supplementary benefit; or

(c) a permanent invalid (irrespective of age) who has never been able to follow any employment and is eligible for State Benefit.

2.3.8.3 Special Categories of Children

(A) Children of Separated Parents:

Free and reduced rate travel may be granted to a dependant child of divorced, legally separated or estranged parents where the child is living with the other parent but being supported by the employee. The employee may release the Staff Travel Card to the child on the understanding that the employee continues to accept responsibility for the proper use of the facility.

Erm, maybe you should have read the first post properly. That's not a strictly accurate response really, but you're saying that if a valid spouse PRIV for his late wife exists, that this should be returnned first.

al1953; your son is entitled to a Priv. I don't know about the procedures for ATOC, but TfL requires a signed letter on headed paper from the University or College stating the start and finish dates of the course.
