That's as maybe, but there is a difference between those who are dealing with active terrorists before the Good Friday agreement in the 1990s (like many of Jeremy Corbyn's interactions with Gerry Adams et al. in the 1980s) and the current dealings with the post-peace-process DUP.

As for Patel, I wouldn't comment on intelligence. Don't confuse sociopathy and narcissism for intelligence but don't confuse it for stupidity either.

I'd say that she would indeed have faced a lot less criticism (not the same thing as hate) if it had been most other countries - but that's because most other countries aren't currently occupying land in contravention to UN resolutions and treating one group of people within their country in a way that has been compared to appartheid.
