This is a technicality but if East Coast are like ryan air then that is very sad.
My mistake I didnt change one of the names on the print @ home.

Does the wrong name invalidate the ticket even if we are on the correct train at the correct time?
I have never heard a guard announcement say this, but there is a mention of wrong train at the wrong time.

How many tickets are there? If more than one, did you book them all at the same time?

yes booked all at the same time but travelling on split tickets.
It does involve a change of train but only the outward leg is affected.

The T&Cs state:
Please note, when purchasing any kind of ticket using the print@home option, you must ensure that each ticket (one for each named passenger) is printed clearly, in portrait layout, on plain white A4 paper. If the ticket is printed in a different format, or the identification for the lead passenger doesn't match that specified during the purchase process, it will not be valid and a new ticket must be purchased.
If you're in a group and you have the correct name for you but not somebody else, this is fine.

If it is your name which is wrong, then the ticket(s) is/are not valid. I believe these tickets have name and (usually) payment card number on them for ID - I would expect that showing your other tickets with the correct name and all matching your card would be OK. You might not be asked for the ID of course.

As things stand, there are huge disadvantages to e-tickets, m-tickets, Print@Home and the like. In almost all cases you pay the same as a standard Advance ticket but lose flexibility (ironically, given how smart ticketing is supposed to be much more flexible) and have added responsibilities. I don't recommend it.

National. Rail tickets are non-transferable.

OP doesn't want to transfer tickets; the wrong name was entered in error. I agree that this is likely to mean that EC will not change the name once purchased, as they won't know that it's not being transferred (unless perhaps contacted immediately after purchase).

I don't think I've ever been asked for ID on East Coast, on my weekly return journey a week with a Print@Home ticket. Of course, whether it is "right" to get on with a ticket in another name is another question. Also, if the wrong name is for someone of a different gender to yourself (assuming its written in full rather than just initial & surname) then they may be more likely to ask for ID :)
