Apparently the Prime Minister was heading north today but his train has been cancelled. Was it the 0903 to Leeds and if so will he catch a later service and will it cause disruption regarding booked seats?

After reading sections of his manifesto last night, imposing the kind of workers rights you see in failed states, I'd probably take the key out and walk off the job sick too. And I don't go sick, I'd make an exception here. I think 0903 was the backworking of 1A02 cancelled for traincrew shortage.

I'm sure the rest of the passengers on the affected services would thank you for that?

And there was me thinking that a 91 had failed on him

Can’t help thinking it’s a good thing he’s finally got to experience the unreliability of the rail network that us plebs have to put up with every day.

Then post angrily somewhere because Sunak was using a helicopter instead of taking public transport?

Irrespective of the politics of people I am dealing with, I would always make sure that I did not disadvantage others. Me doing my job is not an endorsement, or otherwise, of those who indirectly benefit.

How many times did Harold Wilson get a Royal Navy helicopter from Culdrose to the Scillies (after a fixed-wing flight down from Northolt)?
There's no train to the Scillies. There is however a fast and frequent service to Southampton:
(Sunak used a helicopter to visit a pharmacy in Southampton to make an announcement)

Not that I'm defending Wilson. Like Sunak he presided over cuts to our network.

To be fair to Harold Wilson, back in those days there wasn't anything like the public/scientific awareness of environmental issues that there is today. The idea that you'd deliberately choose a form of transport that caused less pollution didn't really exist other than in a few fringe movements back in the 60s and 70s, so it's probably not fair to expect Harold Wilson to have done that.

Indeed, it wasn't until the late eighties that climate change began to be taken seriously.

Everything he touches breaks. Now it's the train. Before that it was Britain.

Is this true or just speculation? More worried it will fuel his dislike of trains even more.

Is this actually a fact. I don't mean is it correct the train was cancelled, but correct that Sunak was due to catch it. I've Googled the internet and can't find anything about it. I suspect if it were true the news agencies would soon be on it.

A BBC reporter was travelling with one of the parties this morning (I -think- it was the conservatives, but I cant remember for sure now), and reported from a moving train, So it's possible Sunak was on a different train to the one that was cancelled

Darren McCaffrey from Sly News stated that it was the train the party suggested journalists take in order to attend an event that was cancelled.

LNER would be aware of which train Sunak would be taking ahead of time. You can be pretty sure that they would do everything possible to not cancel it - it’s a massive PR issue for them. So doubt he was intending to catch this service.

if his train was indeed cancelled, his police special movements team would of known in plenty of time to make plans to travel on an alternative service.

The movements team are in regular contact with train operating control rooms, and the control rooms have direct contact to the movements team as well.

There is no chance he would have just turned up at Kings Cross to find train cancelled, u less it happened literally 5 minutes before departure.

If indeed it was the 0903 Kings Cross to Leeds. That train was cancelled at 04:39!

So you would walk off the job because someone said something you didn’t like?

I did notice a media report, LIVE, from an LNER train this morning. It was on BBC and came from a Mkiv somewhere on the ECML between London and Leeds but i don't think the PM was on board.

It would be quite funny!

( not that it would ever happen because the PM doesn't rock up 5 minutes before the train leaves. it is all sorted out well before the day AND the TOC would never take the risk of a cancellation happening once they knew he was coming)

I’ve cancelled a train knowing he was coming……..there was disruption though, he then had road transport arranged to get him to destination.

Is that a typical attitude of people who work in the rail industry?

cancelling a train in service disruption when the train could not run? Yes!

The train could not operate, was no way it could, I knew PM was due to travel, doesn’t matter who was travelling, train could not run.

Don’t quite get why you feel the need to comment? Or are you trying to stir up an argument? Do not assume everyone does things with bad intentions!

You cannot run a train on a line which is shut, regardless of what your attitude is. Having a 'yes' attitude doesn't make a problem go away.

They would not have a driver on a train with a high profile person who was likely to walk off the job.
Indeed, there would be more than one person on the train capable of driving it.

Who ever the driver is does not come in to it, and no, we do not allocate more drivers than required to run it.

Can’t speak for all TOCs but certainly not at ours.

Driver doesn’t even get told who is travelling!

A high profile passenger would usually involve some sort of driver manager on board the train, wouldn't it? Or maybe it doesn't in your TOC.
Depends how high profile the person is, I suppose. PMs these days are just glorified celebrities
