Hi there,
Just wondering how long previous passes last for, for the role of trainee train driver? I passed all but one test with MTR CROSSRAIL at the assessment day last November at enhanced rate. I am hoping to apply for GWR in the future.

Thanks

I'm not entirely sure, for me a applied for a MDD role at Northern just over 3 years ago and was invited to the assessments which I passed (the position had already be filled but they wanted me to do the assessments anyway incase any more roles came up in 2017). I have applied for the same position with Northern the other week, this is the first time in 3 years this job has been advertised and I'm hoping that having already passed the assessment through them it may help me somewhat.

Tests for all TOCs and FOCs last for 5 years officially. However, it’s completely up to the company as to what timescales they deem appropriate. Most go with 2 years and some will make you do the tests every time you apply, even if you did a test the week before. It’s not unheard of for a company to take on someone who passed the tests 5 years ago though. I’ve also heard a story of someone failing the tests twice and still getting a drivers job. So nothing is impossible.

I know GWR and Freightliner allow them for 5-years, as do DB Cargo (they did for me anyway) however I have heard differing experiences from people applying to DB Cargo of people being made to retake them even after having quite recent passes. SWR is 3-years.

DB Cargo require you to have passed all the tests including the MMI or you have to resit them all. Company policy I was told
