Health professionals (and Keir Starmer now) are keen to spend more money on preventative Medicine. Now initially that seems like a good idea as people will theoretically need less complex treatments if caught early. Furthermore people might lead a longer painless and happier life. This, the theory goes, saves NHS money. However, people will presumably live longer, still need NHS care in their ever-longer dotage, likely get dementia. Even worse, no one has actuary asked us if we WANT to live even longer. Nb I'm of pensionable age.
