Preston Trampower

Well that seems to contradict what we had heard recently.

Who runs this "Preston Station" website ? It seems to be quite interesting with some of the archive material photographs of steam locomotives on certain of the platforms at Preston Station.

The website is still not available to view online still. If this project is viable, surely the website is a most useful link to the public where updated matters can be seen and discussed.

However, there does appear to be a Twitter page when you use a search engine with Preston Trampower.

Preston Station website is run by Adrian Bradshaw, in the links section there is a separate website for Lostock Hall MPD which is an excellent history of the depot, plus sections on the various lines that radiated from Preston inc Southport ! (now you know where Lankyline came from !)

I think Adrian's commitments don't allow him to devote the time he would like to regularly updating the site, but for anyone wanting to see & read about Preston Station's past (& present) it is an excellent source of information & images. The archive images are extensive, interesting shots on the old ELR goods yard, they could have put a bus station there

Back to Trampower, if this get's off the ground, then what would be the realistic extent of the service(s) i wonder, because there is one major hurdle from where they are now and that is WCML and of course network rail, imo it has to access the station, the only "spare" platforms are the old 1 & 2 but from Maudland street i can't see NR allowing trams to cross over the WCML to access them

Not to be pessimistic or anything, because I think this scheme is awesome and have huge respect for anyone pushing it forward, but there is a BIG leap from running one already-built tram along a short stretch of existing track to building a fully functional line. I'm glad it's still happening, but there are a lot of big hurdles left to overcome yet.

Nothing published as yet, still can't see how they are going to extend beyond Maudland onto WCML, pity the old ELR line has gone, still think that despite it being a great idea, ambition and realism are little too far apart at this time.

'Latest News' is dated 30 Oct 2012! It's not a good advert for them.

I don't think the LEP or other news outlets have picked up the story quoted by the prestonstation website. That seems a little odd. Nor is there anything about the Wirral demonstration quoted elsewhere.

Given all the promises made in the past they really need something tangible for people (like me) to believe their hype.

They did themselves no favours recently by the fact that their website was removed...."due to unpaid hosting fees".

Since this matter was discussed, have there been any new announcements made ?

Incidentally, has there ever been any recent comments about the once-proposed re-use of the Miley Tunnel for any light transport use ?

Update on Preston Trampower, a new planning application has been submitted to the council for a depot & 0.45km stretch of track on the old Deepdale line, this apparantly is plan B. Leader of the council says that she would love to see the trams back, but wonders if it will still actually happen !

In addition, Trampower's vision of running down Fishergate has virtually disappeared at this time as the remodelling work is now virtually complete
