Preston to Perth

It appears there aren't any peak restrictions on this flow, but £98.90 is steep without a railcard. Are there any good splitting points? (The travel is for a likely job interview but I don't have times yet - given the journey length I might split over two days with a hotel)

There is scope for saving around £20:

1) by buying offpeak returns and splitting at Oxenholme and Glasgow (but you would need to be on a train that stops at Oxenholme and could not leave Oxenholme before 0900 or Glasgow/Perth before 0916)

(2) by going there and back the same day and buying mainly day returns and splitting (and therefore stopping) at Oxenholme, Lockerbie and Haymarket

If you wait until you have times for the interview, then Advances to/from Edinburgh might be the best option. Looking at the moment, these are retailing at ~£25 each way for tomorrow, ~£20 each way for next week, and ~£11 each way for a month's time. So the earlier you can book them the better, but even at just 1 day's notice that's still a good saving. An off peak day return from Edinburgh to Perth is £17.50.

Booking around a month in Advance, there are some through Advance fares right through to Perth but these are limited in availability - still it's worth checking when you get the travel times.
