If only you went in 2008 or during the odd period where HST's were hired in the summer - you'd have only had to cope with a small train at least from Preston to Manchester for what 45 minutes or around an hour then a 7 - 9-coach HST for the journey of around 7 hours from Manchester to Newquay :) !

Well see last year I went to Birmingham and took the summer Saturday voyager (Which originated from Manchester) right the way down, wasn’t too bad, but a hired ECML HST would’ve been far more interesting! Cheers for the responses though folks
