Preston to Manchester

Right, here's a good one for you. Brought a Preston to Manchester ticket a few weeks ago not knowing that a strike was going to happen, TPE only

Got to Preston, went to board the service but couldn't as overcrowded.

Virgin platform staff say board the Northern service. Was a bit dubious so phoned Northern who say that I must use TPE only

And now a PAIR of 185 units pull in on the Northern service (but I've decided to wait for the 1247 as I know Northern can be a bit trigger happy with their prosecutions

EDIT - 1247 came and managed to get on board there. And we left people on the platform at Wigan

Not related to the strike but I recently made the same journey. Wasn’t sure of the train times so bought a non toc ticket... along came the tpe train so I thought oh I could of saved a bit. This tpe train with all the brands logos and posters was actually a Northern service. The amount of people caught out was ridiculously unfair in my opinion.

To see a guard wearing tpe uniform say that tpe ticket is not valid is mind boggling.

Oh dear.

I do hope they attempt a prosecution and get laughed out of Court with costs against them.

They won't attempt a prosecution because most people will just pay the guard when they demand that you do...

I know a few of the guards who often seem to end up working these services and it does not surprise me even slightly that there are some claiming TPE only tickets are invalid. They are the same guards who calimed Northern only passes were not valid on the trains which were TransPennine run and Northern branded.

It's a bad move, and revenue negative. P*ssing passengers off like that and being pedantic just makes them unlikely to want to use the train again.
